Nick Wright Says He’s Not Panicking About 1 NFL Team

The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t looked the part this season.

The reigning Super Bowl champions have struggled mightily to be at their best, and Eric Bieniemy’s importance on the offense has become more evident as the weeks go by.

Patrick Mahomes is frustrated, Travis Kelce is throwing his helmet on the sidelines, the players are calling the referees out, and it’s been an ugly show overall in Arrowhead.

However, despite all that, NFL analyst Nick Wright still isn’t ready to hit the panic button, as he believes they have a championship-caliber defense.

Talking on First Things First, Wright acknowledged that Mahomes hasn’t been very good lately, and he definitely didn’t have his best performance vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.

He blamed Matt Nagy for the team’s offensive miscues but later raved about Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and claimed that defense wins championships.

As pointed out by the show, the Chiefs’ defense currently ranks second in opponent points per game (17.7), opponent plays of 20+ yards, and yards per game (287.3).

They’re also third in opponent passing yards (173.8) and fourth in sacks (48).

Needless to say, the offense has been the calling card and the strongest unit ever since Patrick Mahomes took the reins and became QB1, but for the first time since that moment, their defense isn’t middle-of-the-pack and could actually carry them.

Then again, the results haven’t always been here, and this team just doesn’t have that ‘unbeatable’ aura around them anymore, but it’s still too early to count them out after all they’ve done and achieved in the past five years.
