After trading away Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, the Washington Wizards committed to a full rebuild during the 2023-24 NBA season.
At 6-25, the Wizards have no hope of making the 2024 NBA Playoffs and are in line for a high draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Washington’s got some intriguing pieces on the roster they could dangle at the trade deadline in order to stockpile draft picks and assets.
One interesting name to watch out for is Tyus Jones who has been steady during his time with the Wizards.
Jones was part of the three-team trade that ended with Porzingis going to the Boston Celtics and Marcus Smart going to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Jones has perenially been one of the best backup point guards in the league, and Washington appears willing to trade him via NBA insider Jake Weinbach.
“It appears that the Wizards are looking to stockpile draft picks by offloading veteran talent as they continue its rebuild. Jones will be a valued asset on the market leading up to the deadline,” Weinbach tweeted.

As Weinbach notes, teams like the Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, and Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly registered interest in trading for Jones.
The former first-round pick would be able to help the aforementioned teams plus several more should the Wizards truly make him available.
As of now, a deal doesn’t seem imminent though things will likely heat up as the trade deadline draws nearer.
Jones clearly doesn’t have a future in Washington given where they are in the rebuild, so it’ll be interesting to see what he ultimately lands them in a trade.
