Rams Cut Kicker After Sunday’s Awful Performance

The Los Angeles Rams pulled off a close 26-25 win in Week 17 after New York Giants kicker Mason Crosby missed a field goal that would have given the Giants the late lead.

But Los Angeles would never have been in the position to lose on a last-second field goal had their own kicker not missed two extra-point attempts Sunday.

Lucas Havrisik missed two point-after attempts in the second half, which opened up a chance for the Giants to win the game on two different drives late in the fourth quarter.

So with the playoffs looming, the Rams made the decisive act to waive Havrisik following his poor performance.

While he didn’t attempt any field goals in Week 17, Havrisik had missed five other field goals on the season and one other extra point.

Havrisik had spent time with the Cleveland Browns practice squad before the Rams signed him to replace Brett Maher for Week 8.

But now that Havrisik is no longer with the team, the Rams will have to look elsewhere to fill their need at kicker with one regular season game left on the schedule.

The Rams will have to make a decision quickly with a Week 18 match against the San Francisco 49ers next.

Los Angeles needs to beat the 49ers, who are locked into the No. 1 seed, to maintain the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.
