The Washington Commanders’ organization has changed significantly over the past several years.

Their team name has changed twice over three years, and the team is now under new ownership.

After all of this change around the organization, the new ownership found it best to fire Ron Rivera from his post as head coach, starting over.

With this in mind, the Commanders are now seeking a new head coach.

Eric Bieniemy was originally seen as a shoo-in to take over, especially since he left the thriving Kansas City Chiefs to become the Commanders’ offensive coordinator.

While Bienemy is still a viable option, he doesn’t appear to be the front-runner for the position.

Reporter Scott Abraham has recently indicated that Ben Johnson has emerged as the “top contender” in this race for a new head coach.

Given that several teams need new head coaches, the Commanders will need to act fast to acquire a top candidate.

Johnson is the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator and was considered for several head coaching roles in the 2023 offseason.

However, he elected to stick around in Detroit, which has paid off mightily.

He has helped make a difference for this offense again this season, a big reason for the team’s success.

Whether he takes the Commanders’ job remains to be seen, but many believe he will be an excellent fit for this team.

They have several young skill-position players who could take another step forward with the proper coaching.

With the Commanders likely slated to select a quarterback in the upcoming draft, this job opening is desirable for any candidate, especially Johnson.
