Royal news – live: King Charles visited by Queen Camilla after second night in hospital following surgery

The Duke of Sussex, 39, reportedly cracked a joke about the British monarch during his speech at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Beverly Hills, California. The father of two was being recognised at the 21st annual awards for his work as a British Army veteran and pilot.

It is not known how long King Charles will spend in hospital but reports suggest he could remain there throughout Sunday.

The King arrived back in London from Norfolk on Thursday afternoon, ready for the procedure after squeezing in a couple of behind-the-scenes official duties.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak wished Charles the “very best” for his treatment and a “speedy recovery” afterwards, a Downing Street spokeswoman said.

The King arrived at a central London hospital today with the Queen by his side ahead of his scheduled treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Charles, 75, was seen entering the prestigious London Clinic on Friday morning, where his daughter-in-law Kate is also recovering after abdominal surgery last week.

Queen Camilla was spotted smiling on her way to visit the King as he continues to recover from prostate surgery.

Camilla was seen in a black Audi car on the way to the central London hospital where Charles remains for a third day.

It is the fourth time she has visited since he was admitted to The London Clinic on Friday.

The King’s desire to share his diagnosis of an enlarged prostate will lead to a rise in men with symptoms of the condition seeking help, an expert has said.

It is understood Charles, 75, was keen to share his diagnosis, in order to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked in line with health advice.

Charles was spotted entering The London Clinic on Friday morning with Camilla at his side – the same hospital where the Princess of Wales was being cared for following abdominal surgery.

He took time to visit his daughter-in-law Kate, who was recovering at the hospital after undergoing successful abdominal surgery last week.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman previously said Charles was “admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment”.

The spokesman added: “His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

It is not known exactly how long Charles will spend at the hospital

The announcement that King Charles III was admitted to a private hospital Friday to undergo a procedure for an enlarged prostate has sparked interest in what is an extremely common condition among older men.

The 75-year-old monarch is in good company. About half of men in their 50s have enlarged prostates and that prevalence climbs to more than 80% of men by the time they reach age 80.

Charles, who only acceded to throne 16 months ago, cancelled engagements and was urged to rest by his doctors ahead of the corrective procedure.

The exact nature of the 75-year-old’s treatment is not known.

NHS England said the “enlarged prostate” page on the NHS website received one visit every five seconds on the day the King’s diagnosis was announced, with further huge boosts in visits in the days that followed.
