The Bank of England said on Thursday that the issues affecting its CHAPS service had now been resolved.

“We are pleased to confirm that the third-party provider has restored services following previous issues and CHAPS payments are settling normally,” the bank said in a statement.

“We expect all payments received by banks today to be settled by the end of the day.”

The Bank of England said earlier on Thursday that “global payments problems” were affecting interbank payment services, delaying some high-value and time-sensitive payments, including some home purchases.

The Bank of England added that retail payment systems and cash machines were unaffected.

The CHAPS system, run by the Bank of England, has previously suffered technical problems, including in August last year and in 2014, when the real-time gross settlement system supporting CHAPS was not functioning properly for several hours.
