Jimmy Butler didn’t spend much time with the Minnesota Timberwolves but his tenure with the team is still talked about to this day.

Apparently, things got very contentious between Butler and the Timberwolves, and now a former teammate is speaking about it.

Talking to Draymond Green, per The Volume, Jeff Teague spoke about Butler’s breakup with the Timberwolves.

According to Teague, it all started because Butler wanted more money.

He felt he was the most important player on the team and should be paid handsomely but the front office chose to give Karl-Anthony Towns a big extension instead.

That didn’t sit well with Butler and it ended up being a big reason for his departure.

Butler joined the Timberwolves in the 2017-18 season and told everyone that he would turn the team around and lead them to new heights.

He had extreme confidence in himself and his ability to make the team a contender in the West.

But this was a time when the team was bringing Towns and Andrew Wiggins into the league.

They were trying to focus on veteran help but also support and nurture the young core they were building.

While Butler got along with Wiggins, most reports have said he clashed a bit with Towns.

He didn’t feel comfortable sharing the spotlight with the up-and-coming star and he definitely didn’t like him eating into his paycheck.

Teague said that things got very heated in the finals days and that Butler eventually blew up after a team meeting.

After just ten games in the 2018-19 season, he moved on to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Teague still loves and respects Butler but he admits that things got very messy during his time in Minnesota.
