French radio FranceInfo identified at least three fires near train tracks that were reported early Friday, each hundreds of kilometers from one another. At least two were described as “malicious acts.”

“Coordinated acts of malicious intent targeted several TGV [high-speed rail] lines, causing major disruption to traffic until the weekend,” outgoing Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete confirmed on X.

No details have been communicated on who could be behind the alleged coordinated attack.

SNCF was expecting a particularly busy weekend, with many French workers heading on vacation, the Olympic opening ceremony set to take place this evening in Paris, and events planned over the weekend in a different venues across the country.
