Over the last couple of years, Tua Tagovailoa has emerged as a star quarterback in the NFL, and he has made the Miami Dolphins the type of respectable team they haven’t been in roughly 20 years.

In doing so, he earned the right to land a humongous contract, as he was heading into the final year of his current deal.

On Friday, he agreed to an extension that will pay him $212.4 million over four years, and while it isn’t quite the richest deal in NFL history by annual salary, it is the richest in Dolphins franchise history.

On social media, Tagovailoa thanked a few people, including head coach Mike McDaniel, his teammates and Dolphins fans, per Ari Meirov.

There are plenty of people who have thrown shade at Tagovailoa and claimed he’s barely above average as a quarterback, but the stats say otherwise.

He led the NFL last season with 4,624 passing yards while throwing for 29 touchdowns, completing 69.3 percent of his pass attempts and posting a 101.1 passer rating.

He has become a very accurate passer on throws of at least 20 yards, and his abilities have helped Miami become arguably the most explosive offensive team in football.

They ranked second in points and first in passing yards and total yards while finishing with an 11-6 record last year.

The next step for Tagovailoa and the Dolphins is to actually do some damage in the playoffs, something the franchise hasn’t done in a long time.

It hasn’t won a single playoff game since the 2000 season, but with weapons such as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane, they could be positioned to advance in the postseason this winter.
