As NBA free agency has slowed down to a crawl this summer, one star player that is getting mentioned more than others in terms of potentially getting traded before the start of next season is forward Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz.

The Jazz seem to have come to terms with the fact that the team needs to go into full rebuild mode, and with that said, Markkanen is seemingly up for grabs at the right price, which could be pretty hefty with Utah wanting a lot of draft capital to make a deal.

Right now, it seems as though the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs are in a two-team race to acquire Markkanen.

The Warriors are looking to add another star to fill the void left by Klay Thompson’s departure, while the Spurs want another talented player to play alongside Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama to speed up the rebuilding process in San Antonio.

Even though it has been very quiet lately in terms of trade rumors involving the Jazz, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes that Utah is preparing to make a move via GSW Ball Report.

“The Jazz are up to something,” Windhorst said.

With Windhorst being as wired in as any NBA insider, the Jazz are probably on the verge of making something happen, which is interesting, to say the least, as it could send shockwaves throughout the league.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Warriors or Spurs can make a deal for Markkanen or if another team emerges from nowhere to acquire the 27-year-old forward.
