After 24 seasons with legendary head coach Bill Belichick running the show, the New England Patriots are heading into a new era, with longtime team owner Robert Kraft and company hoping to rebuild quickly and get back on track as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC sooner rather than later.

However, the Patriots might get worse before they get better, with the team having a first-time head coach in former player Jerod Mayo and a rookie quarterback potentially leading the way on the football field next season in Drake Maye, out of the University of North Carolina.

After a lot of debate and speculation, Maye fell to the Patriots at No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, with the Chicago Bears going with USC’s Caleb Williams at the top and the Washington Commanders deciding to select Jayden Daniels out of LSU at No. 2 overall.

Although Maye will have to beat out veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett to be the starter in New England come Week 1, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports recently made a bold prediction that quarterback Joe Milton will eventually get the nod for the Patriots and chose to double down on that hot take via The Herd of Colin Cowherd.

“Be careful about hot takes. They happen all the time,” Cowherd said.

With no telling what will happen in New England from here on out, Cowherd might not be entirely wrong, as top picks at the quarterback position flame out all the time, and Maye may not be the exception.

However, Maye could also be exactly what the Patriots need to get back on track in the post-Tom Brady era, but only time will tell.
