Columbia University President Minouche Shafik said she resigned Wednesday after nearly four months overseeing the university's handling of campus protests sparked by Israel's war in Gaza.

“This has also been a tumultuous time and the differing viewpoints in our community have been difficult to overcome,” Shafiq said in an email to staff. “This period has taken a considerable toll on my family and others in our community. .
