New Nation Seeks to Join Alliance, Adopt De-Dollarization Plan

As the BRICS bloc has seen its relevance grow in recent months, a new nation is seeking to join the alliance and potentially adopt a de-dollarization plan. Indeed, they join a growing list of countries seeking to be a part of a further expanded collective.

During the BRICS 2023 Summit, the alliance grew for the first time in more than two decades. It welcomed four countries into the fold. Those nations included the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia. Although the group has seen discrepancies form on further growth, there is no denying the interest from countries throughout the world.

New Country Emerges With BRICS Aspirations

The BRICS bloc has grown massively in the last two years. It has become a haven for nations seeking a change in global economics. The reliance on the West has created notable division. For the economic collective, multipolarity is the only way forward.

That has drawn substantial interest from countries. Now, the BRICS bloc has seen a new country come forward, seeking to join the alliance and likely adopt a de-dollarization plan. Indeed, Serbia recently met with Russian officials to discuss the possibility of joining.

A new report says Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksander Vulin met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two talked about BRICS cooperation from Belgrade. Moreover, it leaned on both side’s centuries-old partnership as the basis for Serbia’s inclusion.

The two leaders, “discussed models and mechanisms for establishing cooperation between Serbia and BRICS,” the report said. Moreover, the country stated it is “grateful” for the continued collaboration. Increased participation will likely see the nation ditch the US Dollar in a vital way.

That has long been an initiative the bloc has embraced. Most recently, it has turned its attention to crypto. Russia passed legislation legalizing the currency for trade settlements. Therefore, increasing its potential trade partners.

Serbia joins a growing list of nations interested in joining the collective. Countries like Nigeria, Malaysia, and Thailand have all sought inclusion. The geopolitical world now has its eyes set on October. The 2024 BRICS Summit could be a massive one for the bloc’s continued growth.
