Dan Orlovsky’s breakdowns of this stellar class of NFL rookie quarterbacks on social media have been informative and in-depth this preseason, and he is providing unique insight for fans who desperately hope their team has found their new franchise guy.

He recently took a look at New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s performance in a 14-13 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and broke down the plays he liked most.

Orlovsky took to X and chose two plays that stood out to him, one being a third-and-5 pass when he made a quick decision to hit Javon Baker over the middle for a 12-yard gain, and the other was a third-and-long a few plays later on the same drive when Maye unleashed a beautiful deep ball to Baker after stepping up in the pocket, though Baker wasn’t able to corral the pass.

Maye looked poised and under control going 6-for-11 for 47 yards with a rushing touchdown, and he significantly outperformed his fellow Patriots quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Joe Milton III.

The expectation is that Brissett will be the starter at least until Maye is ready, but if this latest preseason game was any indication, Maye’s development is coming along nicely and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him starting at some point this season.

There is no rush, as Maye is just 21 years old and the Patriots have no legitimate plans to compete this season, but fans have to be excited about what they saw from him in this performance.
