Corey Seager’s two homers guide Rangers past Pirates

Corey Seager hit two home runs to help the Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 on Monday in the first game of a three-game series in Arlington, Texas, and all Texas offense .

Marcus Semien had two hits and scored one run for the Rangers, who won two straight for the first time since a five-game winning streak from July 21-25.

Rangers starter Dane Dunning allowed three runs and five hits in four innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked one.

Jose Urena (4-8) followed with four innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits along the way. Kirby Yates pitched a perfect ninth, fanning the last two batters for his 22nd save.

Jared Triolo hit a three-run homer and Billy McKinney and Joey Bart each had two hits for the Pirates. By one point, the Buccaneers had lost 12 of 14 games.

Pirates starter Luis L. Ortiz (5-4) allowed four runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out seven but did not reach base.

With one out in the first, Seager hit a 449-foot home run on a 3-2 cutter to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Jonah Heim singled to right field to lead off the third inning for Texas. With one out, Semien singled to left, and Heim continued on third, drawing a pitch from left fielder Brian Reynolds, which moved Semien to second.

Seager then stepped up and hit a fly ball into the second row in right-center field for a three-run homer and a 4-0 lead.

Pittsburgh took the lead in the fourth inning when Butt hit an infield single down the third base line.

McKinney hit a two-out single late in the inning, setting up Triolo, who hit a line drive down the left field line that stayed inside the foul pole for a three-run home run. The score gap was reduced to one point.
