Vice President Kamala Harris has raised nearly $500 million to win the White House in the month since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris to take over, NBC News reported on Tuesday. .

The massive windfall includes Harris' campaign and several fundraising entities related to her election campaign more broadly, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News.

One of the sources added that Democrats expect that number to increase to about $600 million by the end of August.

The number reflects the outburst of enthusiasm that propelled Harris to the top of the Democratic ticket after Biden ended his campaign against Republican former President Donald Trump on July 21.

The 81-year-old incumbent's campaign is in trouble following a disastrous debate with Trump in late June amid growing concerns about his suitability for another four-year term. That debate performance reportedly frightened donors and sparked a major incident Fundraising slows.

The move to Harris reversed that trend. In July alone, the vice president's political operations raised $310 million, more than $200 million of which came after Biden withdrew.
