Matt Ryan Names 1 WR He Wished He Could Have Thrown To

When a former NFL quarterback names a legendary wide receiver that he wishes he played with, it makes diehard fans dream about that situation.

Atlanta Falcons fans might be having those dreams now after they recently heard former NFL MVP quarterback Matt Ryan name Calvin Johnson as the receiver he most wishes had been his teammate.

“I loved throwing to big targets. … When I would see Calvin Johnson play, I mean, to me, that was the one. … He was different,” Ryan said on “Up & Adams.”

The idea of Johnson playing with Ryan and likely Hall of Fame-bound receiver Julio Jones is mind-boggling.

Ryan is top 10 in most major passing categories in NFL history, and adding Johnson to the Falcons offense would have only boosted his numbers.

It is hard to argue with Ryan’s answer simply because of what Johnson did in the league at his size.

The 6-foot-5, 236-pound receiver made a Hall of Fame career out of being bigger and better than everybody else.

In nine NFL seasons (all with the Detroit Lions), the man they call “Megatron” put up seven 1,000-yard seasons and earned six Pro Bowl nods.

A member of the Hall of Fame’s 2010s All-Decade Team, Johnson holds the single-season record for most receiving yards (1,964 in 2012).

He got to play with and find success with quarterback Matthew Stafford in Detroit, but imagine the kind of success Johnson might have had if the Georgia Tech product had found his way back to his old college town in Atlanta to play with an MVP quarterback in Ryan.
