In some respects, NBA contracts have gotten out of control.
Most fans have a problem with how much NBA players are getting paid, but it seems to be in line with the amount of revenue teams bring in.
When a player proves that they are consistent and healthy, teams like to do whatever they can to retain them for the foreseeable future.
While getting a major contract is something players strive for, it also comes with a lot of pressure.
Michael Porter Jr. recently peeled back the curtain on NBA contracts, as shared by The Ringer via Legion Hoops on X.
“I would have played this game for free as long as I could eat, I loved it… The money sometimes makes it a little bit harder to enjoy the game because with a max contract comes a lot of expectations on consistency,” Porter said.

Porter still loves the game, and he loves coming to work every day.
He is a staple of the Denver Nuggets and has played for them throughout his entire career.
While he would play for free if it meant he could eat and have a decent lifestyle, Porter also recognizes the reality of the NBA.
Players around the league get massive contracts all the time, but they are expected to perform well once they are under contract.
Injuries happen, but for the most part, if a player doesn’t pull their weight while under a massive deal, it can hurt the team’s chances at winning a title.
