After losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in February, the San Francisco 49ers headed into the NFL offseason determined to figure out how to improve on both sides of the ball and be prepared to take on any team they may face deep in the playoffs.
However, there has been nothing but distractions in the offseason for the storied franchise, as there have been difficult contract talks with star players, a few costly injuries, and a scary situation in San Francisco with rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall getting shot in an attempted robbery.
Even though the Niners had wrapped contract talks with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and were still in a tough situation with elite left tackle Trent Williams, which dominated the headlines in the Bay Area, Pearsall’s shooting put everything into perspective for the team and the rest of the NFL.
Fortunately for Pearsall, the shot went through his chest, which sounds awful and possibly fatal, but the bullet didn’t hit any vital organs, resulting in him being able to be treated and back home a couple of days after being admitted to the hospital.
While the 23-year-old is recovering from the gunshot wound, the 49ers won’t have him available for the first four games of the 2024 NFL season.
With the season opener against the New York Jets approaching, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan gave a brief update on the rookie wideout, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.
Kyle Shanahan said Ricky Pearsall will take it easy for about a week to avoid working up a sweat but that he’ll begin his rehab after that. Just remarkable, given that Pearsall took a bullet to the chest just a few days ago

This incident could’ve ended up with a much different and tragic result, but Pearsall appears to be on track to making a full recovery while looking to eventually begin his NFL career.
This is great news for San Francisco after a turbulent offseason that threatened to derail the 2024 season and its chances of being a Super Bowl contender again.
