SRINAGAR: The Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Party Omar Abdullah Thursday cautioned people against the BJP’s attempts of gaining control of the JK assembly.

Omar was addressing series of public gatherings during his tour of various villages in Budgam Constituency, which began at Budgam Pallar and continued through Waterwani, Shoolipora, Abadpora, Parasabad, Dedina, Alipora, Putlibagh, Labartal, Garind Kallan, Budgam Kalan, Khurd, and concluded at Khumani Chowk in Budgam.

The interactions were organised by MP Srinagar and Senior party leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi. Party Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Aga Yousuf and other party’s local unit functionaries were also present.

In his address, Omar eemphasised hat the National Conference stands as a premier political party with a rich history spanning over nine decades of dedicated service. “The party is keenly aware of the challenges faced by the people of Kashmir, ranging from soaring inflation and high unemployment rates to bureaucratic red tape, the unjust imprisonment of young individuals, lack of development, rising electricity costs, and dwindling ration supplies. The hardships are indeed numerous and pressing. The solution to these critical issues lies within the hands of the people themselves. On the 25th of September, all it takes is a simple click on the NC symbol. This action holds the key to addressing and resolving the multitude of issues that continue to plague our people.”

Omar posed a crucial question regarding the message people wish to convey to the world regarding the decisions made in August 2019. He said, “Do you wish to endorse these actions or express your disapproval? If you support the decisions, then vote for the BJP. However, if you oppose the decisions, it is imperative to vote against the BJP and its allies. The upcoming elections carry immense significance as they will reflect the sentiments of Kashmiris towards the decisions that have threatened their identity. Therefore, if you wish to send a clear message to the world that these decisions were unacceptable, the time to act is now. Any misstep during this critical period will only serve to aid the BJP in distorting the truth on a global scale. Now is the time to stand up, make your voice heard, and take action for the betterment of Kashmir and its people. The power lies within your hands – use it wisely.”

He stressed the importance of choosing the right government, as it could have a profound and enduring impact on the region. “It is imperative for voters to thoughtfully weigh their options and rally behind a shared vision for the advancement of Jammu and Kashmir. If the BJP gains control of the JK assembly, they will tout it as validation of their actions on August 5, 2019. To prevent this, we must mobilise and express our dissent through the power of our vote. It is crucial for the future of Jammu and Kashmir that we make our voices heard at the polls.”

BJP betrayed our people, pushed them to the wall: Dr Farooq Abdullah

Meanwhile, the President of Jammu and Kashmir National, Dr Farooq Abdullah, has expressed concern over the surge in terrorist activities in the Jammu region during the BJP’s rule.

This he said while addressing a series of public meetings in Kathua and Vijaypur areas of Jammu province. Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta was also present on the occasion.

“This disturbing trend has enveloped the once tranquil area in darkness, jeopardizing the safety and security of people. Even regions that were previously cleared of militancy are now being targeted with increasing frequency. Our valiant soldiers are making the ultimate sacrifice, while locals are forced to live in constant fear. The sense of security has been shattered, and the people are desperate for peace,” he said.

The NC-Congress alliance is dedicated to restoring the rights of the people of Jammu. “This includes giving them control over their minerals, contracts, jobs, and trade. Our goal is to ensure that the people of Jammu have priority when it comes to jobs and mineral resources, and that their culture is preserved. The BJP made grand promises, but they have failed to deliver on a single one. Where are the jobs they promised? Where is the investment they boasted about? Instead, Jammu is losing jobs and contracts to outsiders. Toll taxes on roads are burdening the poor, while the lack of electricity and water is adding to the struggles of our youth. Rising tariffs on electricity and water are hitting the poor hard, and ration cuts are pushing them to starvation. The BJP has betrayed our people and pushed them to the brink.”

He further added, “It is time for a change. The NC-Congress alliance is committed to fighting for the rights and well-being of the people of Jammu.”
