Braves reinstate 2B Ozzie Albies from injured list

The Atlanta Braves are letting three-time All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies complete his rehab assignment, returning him from the injured list ahead of Friday's series opener against the host Miami Marlins.

On July 21, the Braves lost 6-2 to the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Albies suffered a broken wrist and has been sidelined since.

He batted .258 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs in 90 games this season.

Albies, 27, has been a key player for the Braves since entering the majors in 2017. He has hit 20 or more homers four times, including a career-best 33 last season. He surpassed 100 RBIs twice and 100 runs scored three times.

Also on Friday, the Braves optioned infielder Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Biggio, 29, is 1-for-5 in four games with the Warriors this season. He also spent time with the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers this season.

The son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio had 16 homers, 48 ​​RBIs and 14 steals in 100 games in 2019, flashing potential as a rookie. Ranked fifth in the voting.

But since then, his home runs have failed to reach double digits, and his hits in a single season have even reached as high as 70. Biggio has a career hitting average of .225 with 51 home runs and 186 RBIs in 524 career games.
