ESPN lost a major asset this week when Adrian Wojnarowski announced he was retiring from reporting after years of breaking the biggest news in sports.

Right away, NBA fans started asking the same question: who will replace Wojnarowski?

According to Sam Amico, per BasketballNews.com, ESPN has someone in mind: Shams Charania.

Apparently, the network is very interested in signing Charania and it would be considered a “big loss” if they don’t land him.

However, the media landscape has changed over the years and ESPN will have to offer a lot to Charania if they really want him.

For years, Charania has been seen as the top rival of Wojnarowski.

They have both fought hard to share the biggest news and stay on top of trades and any bit of NBA information.

Therefore, it’s not surprising to hear ESPN wants Charania to step into Wojnarowski’s shoes.

But, how much will they pay him and when can they put a deal together?

After leaving his latest position, Charania is basically a free agent right now.

But ESPN isn’t the only outlet that wants him.

According to reports, they were paying Wojnarowski about $7 million a year – are they willing to give the same to Charnia?

And what other media companies might jump in and try to woo Charania away?

This report states other candidates could replace Wojnarowski, including Brian Windhorst, Chris Haynes, and Jake Fischer.

They have options, but their heart is set on Charania.

Now it’s time to see if they can put a tantalizing offer together before the regular season kicks off in a few weeks.
