SRINAGAR: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address an election rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch today as campaigning for the second phase of the Legislative Assembly elections comes to a close. The elections are set for September 25.
The polls are currently underway in 90 constituencies across three phases in Jammu and Kashmir. Poonch falls in the second phase, with voting scheduled for Wednesday. There are a total of 26 constituencies in the second phase.
According to a report by India TV, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will campaign for the party candidate on Monday (September 23) in Poonch’s Surankote.” Shahnawaz Choudhary is the Congress candidate from Surankote.
This is Rahul Gandhi’s first campaign appearance in the Poonch constituency of the Chenab Valley.
“A close contest is expected in Surankote, with Shahnawaz Choudhary running as the alliance candidate, while his main opponent is BJP candidate Mushtaq Bukhari. Additionally, independent candidate Mohammad Akram Choudhary, who was previously with the National Conference, is now contesting as an independent,” the report added.
