Justin Herbert’s recent struggles with injuries have cast a shadow over the Los Angeles Chargers’ upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The quarterback, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, faced further setbacks in the Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving his availability for Week 4 in question.
Herbert’s resilience was on display as he continued to play through discomfort, but the situation deteriorated when he had to be replaced by Taylor Heinicke.
This turn of events has left Chargers fans anxious about their star quarterback’s status for the crucial AFC West showdown.
Herbert recently provided some insight into his injury, stating that his ankle is showing signs of improvement, but he remains uncertain about his availability against the Chiefs.
He said there have been conversations about him sitting out through the Chargers’ Week 5 bye, but he “doesn’t think that’s the way we’re heading,” via Kris Rhim of ESPN.

The focus now shifts to whether he can recuperate in time to face the undefeated Chiefs.
Should Herbert be unable to play, the Chargers are likely to turn to Heinicke, with Easton Stick serving as the backup.
Adding to the Chargers’ concerns are injuries to other key players on both sides of the ball.
Offensive tackles Joe Alt (knee) and Rashawn Slater (pectoral) are expected to be sidelined, while defensive star Joey Bosa is dealing with a hip injury.
Off to a very good start to the 2024 NFL season, the Chargers now find themselves in a precarious position, with the health of their quarterback and several other key players in question.
