SRINAGAR: Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, Kashmiri model and businessman Mohsin Akhtar Mir, The Hindustan Times reported.

An anonymous source from a Mumbai court disclosed the information, although the reason behind their reported separation has not yet been revealed. The newspaper quoted the source: “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to end her marriage with Mohsin. She has already filed for divorce in court. While the cause of the separation remains unknown, the divorce is not happening on mutual terms.”

In a private ceremony, Urmila and Mohsin tied the knot on February 4, 2016. At the time, their marriage drew attention, not only due to the inter-faith aspect but also because of the 10-year age gap between them. Things appear to have soured over the nearly decade-long union, leading to the current situation.

While Urmila’s life in the public eye is well-documented, little is known about her husband, Mohsin. Born and raised in Kashmir, Mohsin moved to Mumbai at the age of 21, harbouring dreams of making it in Bollywood. He debuted in the 2009 film It’s A Man’s World and went on to act in Luck By Chance (2009), Mumbai Mast Kallander (2011), and BA Pass (2012). Later, Mohsin shifted his focus to business and is now reportedly involved with designer Manish Malhotra’s label. Notably, it was at Malhotra’s niece’s wedding in 2014 where the couple first met.

Despite his Bollywood aspirations, Mohsin admits his true passion lies in business. He recently ventured into Marathi cinema with his first film, Madhuri, starring Sonali Kulkarni and directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi. Speaking to Hindustan Times about his decision to produce the film, Mohsin shared, “I owe a lot to Maharashtra. It gave me my break in modelling and introduced me to the world of films. I have a deep connection with Marathi cinema and feel there is much more to contribute to the industry.”

Regarding Urmila’s influence on his filmmaking journey, Mohsin added that her inputs were invaluable, though he jested about not casting her in Madhuri due to budget constraints. “She knows me better than anyone else and trusted me with this project. Her suggestions mattered a lot, but casting Urmila would have blown the budget (laughs).”

Urmila Matondkar, on the other hand, has yet to officially comment on the reported divorce. As one of Bollywood’s beloved actresses, her personal life has often attracted public attention, and this latest development is no exception. The couple, who once made headlines for their whirlwind romance and private wedding ceremony, are now reportedly facing a legal separation that has left fans and media awaiting further details.

“Over the years, Urmila and Mohsin’s relationship seemed to project an image of happiness, especially through social media, where they often shared glimpses of their personal lives,” another report said. “On their 6th wedding anniversary, Mohsin posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking Urmila for everything she had done to make their marriage work. The post, filled with love and appreciation, now stands in sharp contrast to the news of their divorce.”
