Coming into the 2024 NFL regular season, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson was dealing with a calf issue, which forced the Pittsburgh Steelers to start Justin Fields in Week 1 on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

After Wilson signed with the team following an ugly divorce with the Denver Broncos after two seasons, the consensus was he’d be the starter for the foreseeable future in Pittsburgh, with Fields being brought in to be the backup and potentially the starter down the line.

With Wilson’s calf injury lingering, Fields has started three games for the Steelers and helped the team win all three, making Pittsburgh one of only five undefeated teams left in the NFL heading into Week 4.

The fact that Fields hasn’t missed a beat in these three starts with three straight wins, benching him at this point would be a tough decision.

However, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Wilson is named the starter once fully healthy, with Tomlin reluctant to name the starter for the rest of the season, but chances are, Fields isn’t losing that job until he starts losing on the field.

With Wilson’s future in Pittsburgh looking bleak, Zach Gelb believes the veteran quarterback should ask to be traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

“And the first team, if I’m Russell Wilson, that I would say go trade me to, it would actually be in the AFC, and it would be to the Las Vegas Raiders,” Gelb said.

Despite an impressive come-from-behind win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, the Raiders haven’t looked great at quarterback, with veteran Gardner Minshew not doing much to prove he should be the starter for the rest of the season.

Even though Minshew hasn’t won anyone over in Las Vegas after three games, only time will tell whether the team is motivated to make a trade to bring in a potential upgrade like Wilson.
