Brandon Aiyuk Made To Change Shorts During Practice

The San Francisco 49ers’ rocky start to the 2024 season just got a bit rockier.

At 1-2, the defending NFC champions could do without any extra drama, but that’s exactly what they got during a recent walkthrough.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk decided to march to the beat of his own drum.

While his teammates sported black shorts for the casual practice, Aiyuk showed up in red shorts.

It might seem trivial, but head coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t having it.

When called out, Aiyuk’s reaction was unexpected, to say the least.

Instead of a simple wardrobe change, he put on a show, stripping down right there on the field.

The spectacle was caught on video, much to the amusement — or dismay — of onlookers.

Shanahan, clearly frustrated, later quipped to reporters, “Yeah, he did [wear the wrong shorts]. … I wish I could wear different shorts.”

The coach’s dry humor barely masked his annoyance.

This incident isn’t doing Aiyuk any favors. It’s just another chapter in what’s becoming a reputation for being a bit of a troublemaker.

Remember the offseason contract drama? Well, he got his payday with a four-year, $120 million deal. But it seems that hasn’t quite settled him down.

The timing couldn’t be worse. With key players like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle nursing injuries, the 49ers needed Aiyuk to step up.

Instead, he’s managed a modest 11 catches for 119 yards in three games. He may be facing intense coverage from opponents, but for $120 million, fans were expecting more.

As the 49ers try to right the ship, they’ll need everyone pulling in the same direction.

Aiyuk’s talent is undeniable, but the distractions are the last thing a struggling team needs.
