The Minnesota Timberwolves just made a shocking trade.
They pretty much salary-dumped their second-best player and former franchise player in a trade to get Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle.
That leaves Anthony Edwards as the last man standing and the lone person responsible for the team’s success.
Needless to say, that might also lead to some improved numbers in his fifth season in the league, and given his charisma and popularity, that should put him right in the MVP conversation.
When asked about that, he claimed that he was definitely going to aim for that, adding that there was nothing else to win at this point (via ClutchPoints & NBA TV).
“Do you feel like you have the game to be MVP in this league one day?”
Anthony Edwards: “Yeah, hell yeah, for sure, no question. And that’s what I’m going for. At this point, ain’t nothing else to go for… I’m definitely going for it.”

There’s nothing wrong with making a run at an ultimate individual award, so long as it also leads to winning.
Then again, he’s not going to win MVP unless his team is playing winning basketball.
The Timberwolves are going through a sale process, and that may have led to them shedding money off their payroll in the move to trade Karl-Anthony Towns.
The team should be able to build a competitive team around Edwards for years to come.
However, Randle, as good a player as he is, doesn’t seem to be a good fit next to Rudy Gobert, nor is he a better player than Towns.
It’ll be interesting to see how Chris Finch’s team fares next season, and expectations should be higher after reaching the Western Conference Finals last season.
