SRINAGAR: The Rhodes Trust has announced the creation of a sixth Rhodes Scholarship for India in partnership with the Radhakrishnan-Rajan family.

The Rhodes Scholarship is an excellence-based scholarship aimed at developing socially concerned leaders and promoting international understanding and peace through a community of scholars.

Established through the will of Cecil John Rhodes in 1903, the Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship programme in the world, enabling talented individuals from around the globe to undertake full-time postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.

The announcement was made by Warden Dr Elizabeth Kiss at a reception on 26 September 2024, attended by members of the Radhakrishnan-Rajan family, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and his wife Amy Wakeland, Rhodes National Secretary for India Dr Dhvani Mehta, and Rhodes Trustee Menaka Guruswamy.

They were joined by Rhodes Scholars Asma Shakeel, Ayan Gupta, Joann Cherian, and Zayaan Asmi, who were taking a break from preparations for their upcoming journey to Oxford for a special occasion that included a discussion on leadership, education, and the relevance of the Rhodes Scholarship today and in the future.

The Rhodes Scholarship is a significant opportunity to join brilliant young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. It is the earliest and most renowned global project for postgraduate scholarships, helping students worldwide pursue their studies at the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholarships for India were established in 1947.
