Quarterback is not just the most important position in the NFL, but it might be the most important position in all of sports.

That much is obvious, which is why it is also fun to think about the best non-quarterbacks in the league.

Fox Sports’s Colin Cowherd recently released his list of the top five players he would start a franchise with.

“I’d start with Chris Jones…No. 2 would be Trent Williams…No. 3 would be Myles Garrett…T.J. Watt would be No. 4…No. 5, Maxx Crosby,” Cowherd said Wednesday on The Herd.

It is not a surprise to see four of the five players on this list be defensive players considering defense wins championships.

Chris Jones is arguably the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL.

The five-time Pro-Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion is just as important as the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce seeing as he has recorded nine or more sacks in five of his eight seasons in Kansas City.

Trent Williams is one of the best offensive linemen in NFL history.

The 11-time Pro-Bowler is a physical force on the edge and someone who the San Francisco 49ers absolutely love to utilize in the running game.

Myles Garrett is the face of the franchise in Cleveland.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is just 28 years of age and has 92.5 career sacks.

T.J. Watt, a four-time First-Team All-Pro and former Defensive Player of the Year, is arguably the best defender in the league.

Finally, Maxx Crosby is another great superstar off the edge.

The three-time Pro-Bowler has recorded 30 sacks over the last two seasons and counting in Las Vegas and is right in the middle of his prime.
