Lamar Jackson Explains Mark Andrews’ Declining Production

Despite being picked by some to reach the Super Bowl this season, the Baltimore Ravens have been a mild disappointment so far.

After losing their first two games, they may have started to find themselves by virtue of a 35-10 beatdown of the Buffalo Bills on “Sunday Night Football.”

However, one big concern for the Ravens is their passing offense, especially since the production of tight end Mark Andrews, arguably their biggest pass-catching threat, is down considerably to start the season.

Yet, quarterback Lamar Jackson had a simple explanation for why Andrews isn’t producing as much as he did in the past.

“I believe he’s doing his role. Sometimes you might not get the ball. We got all these great guys on our offense that’s helping us win games, including Mark. … [He’s] blocking, running routes, running guys out, finding other guys to be open. He’s being a team player right now,” Jackson said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Andrews has just six catches for 65 yards and no touchdowns in four games this season, and in Baltimore’s past two games, he hasn’t had a single catch while being targeted just once in each.

Last season, he made 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games before a leg injury ended his regular season.

Meanwhile, a new threat has emerged at tight end for the Ravens: Isaiah Likely.

In his third NFL season, Likely has 13 catches and leads the team with 167 receiving yards.

Of course, the Ravens have always been a ground-and-pound team, and running back Derrick Henry, their big offseason acquisition, has rushed for 480 yards and five touchdowns.

Baltimore visits the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 before hosting the surprising Washington Commanders in Week 6.
