Since it premiered in 2005, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” continues to be a hit series, and a number of recognizable pro athletes have competed on the show.

Jerry Rice, Hines Ward, Calvin Johnson and Michael Irvin are among the former NFL stars who have taken part over the years.

Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions is very early in his career, but he said that once his playing days are over, he will join the list of NFL players taking part on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“That is what I’m doing the second that my career is done with. I’m all there,” Hutchinson said on “Up & Adams.”

After starring at the University of Michigan, Hutchinson was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he was the runner-up in the Defensive Rookie of the Year balloting behind Sauce Gardner of the New York Jets.

He put up 9.5 sacks as a rookie, and last season he recorded 11.5 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, 14 tackles for loss and seven passes defended, which earned him his first Pro Bowl nod.

This season, the 24-year-old is leading the NFL with 6.5 sacks in four games.

His arrival in Detroit coincides with the remarkable turnaround of the franchise, which had been a laughingstock for decades and hadn’t won a playoff game since the 1991 season.

The Lions won eight of their last 10 games in 2022, and last season, they finished with a 12-5 record and came within minutes of earning their first Super Bowl appearance.

Despite a 3-1 record so far this year, they have been a bit disappointing, especially on offense, but their defense looks significantly improved, and Hutchinson is leading the charge on that side of the football.
