Stephen Colbert Makes ‘Weird’ Discovery In Jack Smith’s New Trump Brief

“That’s pretty damning language, I gotta say, but kinda weird word choice to say Trump ‘resorted to crimes,’” quipped “The Late Show” host on Thursday.

“That’s like saying with nowhere else to turn, the bear resorted to pooping in the woods, it’s just what they do. And just a note, ‘resorted to crimes,’ should not be confused with crime resort, another name for Mar-a-Lago.”

The legal brief, unsealed by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Wednesday, offers new evidence in the federal election case against Trump. It arrived roughly three months after the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling.

Colbert later noted that Smith uses the filing to point out that Trump “did all of this as a candidate, someone seeking office, not an office holder.”

“Yes, he wasn’t there as president, he was there as a — young man,” joked Colbert as he mimicked the first line of the classic ’70s song.
