British rapper slowthai was reportedly charged with two counts of rape on Tuesday 16 May over an incident that took place in Oxford in September 2021 protector.
The artist, born Tyron Frampton, has been charged with performing oral and vaginal penetration on a woman without her consent during a remote appearance at Oxfordshire Magistrates Court via video link, British newspapers have reported. Frampton only confirmed his real name, date of birth and Northampton address.
Prosecutor Adam Yar Khan told magistrates that the rape allegation was an indictable offence, which had to be tried in court. Slowthai was granted bail to appear at Oxford Crown Court next month.
renew: Shortly after the allegations were made public, slowthai issue a statement on social media. “Regarding the allegations made about me,” he wrote. “I categorically deny these allegations. I am innocent and I believe my name will be cleared.”
He continued: “Until then, I will do everything in my power to ensure a swift and fair conclusion to the negotiations. I ask my supporters not to comment on this situation and to respect my family’s process and privacy during this time.”
Back in 2020, slowthai made sexual comments on stage to NME Awards host Katherine Ryan. Slowthai was later involved in an altercation with a viewer who reportedly called him a “misogynist”.
slowthai’s latest album, ugly, released in March. He recently took the stage with Gorillaz on the first weekend of the Coachella Music Festival for their 2020 collaboration, “Momentary Bliss.” He is currently planning to open for Blur at the band’s first headline show at London’s Wembley Stadium in eight years.
