Last season, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins was hoping to make the Minnesota Vikings a legitimate title contender while connecting with superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson and having all the pieces of the puzzle come together for a talented team that might have been on the cusp of breaking through in the NFC.

Unfortunately for Cousins, the worst thing that can happen to the aging quarterback who hasn’t won a Super Bowl happened as he went down with a torn Achilles tendon and was done for the season, which turned out to be his last playing for the Vikings.

Despite turning 36 next month and coming off an injury that has ended a lot of professional careers in the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons made the bold move to sign Cousins to a lucrative long-term contract in NFL free agency, giving him a chance at a fresh start.

With Cousins coming off an Achilles injury, there was a lot of uncertainty about his status for training camp, but the Falcons got some good news Thursday because their new starting quarterback will not be placed on the PUP list, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

The real question now is how Cousins will look at camp and whether rookie Michael Penix Jr. will make an impression, putting some added pressure on the veteran as he starts a new stage in his career in Atlanta.

If Cousins can show signs of his old form, the Falcons might be in for a breakout season in 2024, as many will expect them to contend for a playoff spot in the NFC.
