18-Year-Old Drowns in Jhelum River; Rescue Team Mobilised

SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old youth drowned in the River Jhelum near the old bridge in Sumbal, North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, on Saturday afternoon.

An official said that the youth drowned while bathing in the river. He has been identified as Huzaif Ahmed Shah, son of Hilal Ahmed Shah, a resident of Naniara Sumbal.

The official added that, following the drowning incident, locals, police, and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) have reached the spot, and efforts are underway to rescue the boy.

Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident and started an investigation. (KS)
