SRINAGAR: In the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election campaign, the financial declarations of Phase II candidates reveal a significant range of wealth, from high to low.
Tariq Hameed Karra, Congress President and candidate from Central Shalteng, leads the pack with a staggering net worth exceeding Rs 190 crore. His assets include Rs 148 crore in agricultural land, over Rs 9 crore in commercial properties, and residential properties valued at over Rs 25 crore, solidifying his position as the wealthiest candidate in this phase.
Following Karra is Kuldeep Raj Dubey, the BJP candidate from Reasi. At 67 years old, Dubey, also known as Mangu Shah, has declared assets worth Rs 12.80 crore. His financial portfolio includes Rs 9 crore in movable assets and Rs 3.5 crore in immovable property, though his liabilities amount to Rs 478.68 lakh from bank loans. Notably, his movable assets comprise significant business investments and valuable gold and jewels.
In the Independent camp, Jugal Kishore Sharma, contesting from Katra Mata Vaishno Devi, has declared impressive assets. Sharma’s wealth includes Rs 15.93 crore in immovable property and Rs 59.04 crore in movable assets. His wife also contributes to this substantial total with Rs 7.17 crore in immovable and Rs 83.72 lakh in movable assets.
Abid Ansari from the JK Peoples Conference, contesting from Zadibal, is another prominent candidate with considerable wealth. Ansari has reported Rs 1.47 crore in movable assets and Rs 38 crore in immovable property, placing him among the wealthier individuals in the region.
Maher Ali, a National Conference candidate from Kangan and son of MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, has a declared annual income of Rs 24 lakh. His assets include Rs 65 lakh in movable property and Rs 4.88 crore in immovable assets, with a significant portion being self-acquired.
Mubarak Gul, representing the National Conference in Eidgah, has declared an annual income of Rs 20 lakh. His wealth consists of Rs 2.67 crore in movable assets and over Rs 4 crore in immovable assets, with additional contributions from his wife’s property.
Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Shah of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (Secular) has declared assets worth over Rs 7.05 crore. His assets include Rs 5.72 lakh in movable property and Rs 7 crore in inherited immovable assets, with no liabilities reported.
Baldev Raj Sharma, the BJP candidate from Katra Mata Vaishno Devi, has substantial assets, reporting Rs 20.25 crore in immovable property and Rs 31.14 lakh in movable assets. His family’s total assets exceed Rs 6 crore.
Choudhary Abdul Ghani, BJP’s candidate from Poonch-Haveli, has declared Rs 8.63 crore in immovable assets and Rs 41.14 lakh in movable assets, placing him among the wealthier candidates in his constituency.
Mohd Akram, another BJP candidate from Gulabgarh, has declared Rs 8.05 crore in immovable assets, marking him as one of the wealthier candidates in his area.
Nadeem Ahmad Khan, from PDP and contesting in Mendhar, has reported assets worth Rs 3.42 crore, showcasing significant wealth in comparison to other candidates in his constituency.
Javed Ahmad Rana of the National Conference, running in Mendhar, has declared Rs 3.76 crore in both movable and immovable assets, with an additional Rs 4.2 crore in assets held by his wife.
Javed Iqbal Choudhary, contesting from Budhal for the National Conference, has declared Rs 6.98 crore in immovable assets, with his wife holding Rs 1.59 crore in assets.
Qamar Hussain from PDP, contesting in Thannamandi, has reported Rs 2.79 crore in assets. His wealth includes Rs 6 lakh in jewellery, Rs 3.48 lakh in cash, and Rs 5.27 lakh in fixed deposits, along with immovable assets valued at Rs 2.65 crore.
Surinder Kumar Choudhary of the National Conference, contesting from Nowshera, has declared assets exceeding Rs 2 crore. His assets include Rs 70.3 lakh in movable property and Rs 28.65 lakh held by his wife, alongside agricultural and residential properties.
Shah Mohd Tantray, from the J&K Apni Party and contesting in Poonch Haveli, has declared Rs 1.5 crore in assets, positioning him as a moderately wealthy candidate in this phase.
Shabir Ahmad Khan, Congress candidate from Thannamandi, has declared assets worth Rs 1.5 crore, indicating a balanced financial profile.
Zuhaib Yousf Mir, a first-time candidate from PDP in Lal Chowk, has declared Rs 48 lakh in assets, including shares and gold, with no liabilities reported.
Arif Irshad Laigroo from PDP, contesting in Habba Kadal, has declared modest assets with Rs 50,000 in cash and Rs 24.19 lakh in assets owned by his wife.
Gazanfar Ali of the Awami Ittehad Party, contesting from Lal Chowk, has declared Rs 21 lakh in movable assets and Rs 4.80 crore in immovable assets.
Muzaffar Shah, from the Awami National Conference and contesting in Habba Kadal, has declared Rs 21 lakh in movable assets and Rs 10 crore in immovable assets, though he also carries Rs 2 crore in liabilities.
Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, an Independent from Habba Kadal, has declared Rs 8 lakh in movable assets and liabilities of Rs 34 lakh.
Jibran Dar, an Independent from Chanapora, has reported Rs 30,000 in cash and Rs 2 lakh in liabilities.
Lastly, Ravinder Raina, BJP’s candidate from Nowshera, has declared the lowest assets among the candidates. His financial disclosure includes only Rs 1,000 in cash and no property. His income is solely from his pension as a former MLA.
