Lizzo Rallies Against Nebraska Anti-Abortion Bill: Watch

Lizzo is performing this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska, where newly passed laws place restrictions on abortion and gender-affirming care. During the show, the singer took the opportunity to speak out against the law, pleading with her viewers, “Don’t let anyone tell you who you are.”

“Anyone who comes to the Lizzo show should know that I support people’s right to health care — reproductive and gender affirmation,” she said.Noticing the presence of so many children in the crowd, the artist became emotional, not least because LB574 Gender-affirming care is prohibited for Nebraskans under the age of 19.

“It really breaks my heart that some young people are growing up in a world that doesn’t protect them,” she said. “So make me your safe space tonight.”

“Young man, don’t let anyone tell you who you are,” she continued. “Don’t let any laws tell you who you are not. You are who you are, okay? I see you, you have a point, you deserve to be here. You are a multitude. These laws are not real. You are real , you deserve protection.” Watch her full review below.

LB574 also banned abortions at 12 weeks and threatened to revoke the licenses of doctors who performed the procedure. Called the “Let Them Grow Act,” the bill does include exceptions for ectopic pregnancy, rape, incest, or medical emergencies.

Lizzo’s remarks are even more poignant when you realize that Senator Beau Ballard of Nebraska, who voted to pass the bill, was present at the concert. Democratic Sen. Megan Hunt of Nebraska revealed his plans to meet the artist. “They want LGBTQ money, they want LGBTQ entertainment, they want LGBTQ culture, but they won’t vote to protect LGBTQ lives and safety,” she said.
