Dan Orlovsky Says Lions Have Issue In 1 Important Area

After the Detroit Lions won the NFC North and came to the brink of a Super Bowl appearance last season, they entered this season with very high expectations.

In fact, some people have been picking them to reach this season’s Super Bowl, which is a place the franchise has never been.

But the Lions are coming off a disappointing Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which quarterback Jared Goff was inefficient and threw two interceptions and no touchdown passes.

Former Lions quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky said Detroit has major problems converting in the red zone, where they rank toward the bottom of the league in a few key metrics.

“This offense has been great up until the point of the red zone, then it falls flat on its face,” Orlovsky said, via NFL on ESPN.

Against Tampa Bay, Detroit got into the red zone seven times but scored just one touchdown and had to settle for a field goal three times.

The Lions have plenty of weapons on offense, including wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta, and therefore should be much better in the red zone.

There have been questions over the years about Goff, who is a three-time Pro Bowler, and whether he is truly capable of elevating his team and putting it in position to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

He got the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl during the 2018 season, but he went just 19-of-38 and had no touchdown passes and one interception as they lost to the New England Patriots.

It will be up to Goff and the Lions to fix their deficiencies on offense when they visit the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
