49ers DT Javon Hargrave (triceps) could miss rest of season

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave suffered a partially torn right triceps and will require surgery, which is possible, coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday. Resulting in season reimbursement.

Hargrave was injured in San Francisco's 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

“It's a huge (loss),” Shanahan said. “I thought he had his best game (Sunday). I thought he was a big factor, a quarterback that really impacted that game… He's one of our better players. He Definitely moving in the right direction and going to have a big year.

Shanahan said Hargrave does have a chance to return, but it won't happen until later in the playoffs.

Hargrave, 31, has one sack and seven tackles in three games (all starts) for San Francisco this season.

Meanwhile, Niners quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with back pain. An MRI showed nothing serious, and Shanahan said the 24-year-old was doing fine.

In San Francisco's first three games, Purdy completed 72.6 percent of his passes (69 of 95) for 842 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

Christian McCaffrey has yet to play in a game for the 49ers this season, Shanahan said Monday, and the star running back traveled to Germany over the weekend to see a specialist as he continues to deal with nagging Achilles tendonitis.

McCaffrey has been on injured reserve since September 14th. and two touchdowns.

The Niners (1-2) will face the New England Patriots on Sunday in Santa Clara, California.
