Srinagar Sizzles at 33.6°C Amid Unseasonal Heat

SRINAGAR: The heat wave continued across the Kashmir region on Tuesday, with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording a maximum temperature of 33.6°C.

Today’s maximum temperature was 6.6°C above normal. Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, saw a slight decline in temperature, with today’s maximum at 32.8°C, down from yesterday’s 33.2°C.

In Qazigund, the temperature was 7.2°C above normal, as per the data. Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2°C, 6.6°C above normal.

Kupwara in north Kashmir, Pahalgam—a popular tourist destination—and Gulmarg, a ski resort, recorded maximum temperatures of 33.7°C, 29.5°C, and 23.6°C, respectively.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), said the weather would remain generally dry tomorrow, with the possibility of light rain and thunder at isolated locations.

On September 26 and 27, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain and thunder in many areas. From September 28 to October 3, generally dry weather is forecast, with brief spells of rain and thunder expected at isolated places on the 28th and 29th.

However, he noted that generally dry weather is expected from October 1 to October 3.

The MeT has also issued an advisory, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places, with the possibility of light snow over a few higher reaches during the night of September 26.
