University of Nevada, Las Vegas starting quarterback Matthew Sluka announced on social media Tuesday night that he will not play in any games this season.

Sluka, a senior, said he will use his redshirt year. He spent the first four seasons of his college career at Holy Cross University.

“I made my decision to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas based on certain representations made to me that were not supported upon my admission,” Sluka said in a post on “Despite discussions, it is clear that these promises will not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates good luck this season and hope the program continues to be successful. “

Sluka completed 21 of 48 passes in three games this season for 318 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. The dual-threat also caught 39 passes for 253 yards and one score for the Rebels (3-0), who host Fresno State in Saturday's Mountain West Conference opener ( 3-1, 1-0).

Either Haji-Malik Williams or Cameron Friel will be the starting quarterback for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in this game.
