Anonymous NFL Executives Have Clear Favorite For Best Front Office

In pro sports, some front offices make one bad or questionable decision after another, while others consistently do what is needed to at least have a real shot at a world championship.

The Athletic recently polled 40 executives and coaches across the league and asked them which team has the best front office, and the runaway winner was the Baltimore Ravens, per Ryan Mink.

The Ravens beat out the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, who came in second, and the San Francisco 49ers, perennial contenders who have added more talent each season and finished third in the balloting.

The executive vice president and general manager of the Ravens is Eric DeCosta, who started out with them in 1996 as a player personnel assistant, and he later became their assistant general manager in 2012.

He started his current role in 2019, the same year quarterback Lamar Jackson first became a full-time starter for an entire season.

Jackson won the league MVP that year, but his production fell over the next three seasons.

Last season, however, he won another MVP as he led the Ravens to the best regular season record in the NFL.

After they fell in the AFC Championship Game to the Chiefs, DeCosta and crew decided to be aggressive and signed Derrick Henry, the star running back who once posted 2,000 rushing yards in a single season, in free agency.

While Baltimore is just 1-2 to start this season, Henry has been huge, and third-year tight end Isaiah Likely is starting to look like a stud.

While they have issues on defense, they could very well start to build some real momentum over the next several weeks after defeating the Dallas Cowboys on the road last weekend.
