SRINAGAR: Late Farooq Nazki’s wife Bilquis Banoo, breathed her last at a hospital in Srinagar on Friday. She was in her 70s.
She had been suffering from multiple health ailments for many years.
“She was unwell for the last few years and underwent treatment for cancer in Mumbai, bravely fighting the disease. After her husband’s passing, her health deteriorated again. Later she was admitted to a private hospital in Srinagar,” a family source said.
The Nimaz-e-Jinaza of the deceased will be offered around 6:30 at the shrine of Hazrat Mir Sayeed Yaqoob (RA) in Sonwar locality of Srinagar, after which she will be laid to rest at the graveyard at Malkha, near Kathi Darwaza.
Nazki who passed away in February earlier this year started his career as a journalist in Zamindar newspaper (another report suggests it was Mazdoor newspaper) and a casual news reader. He eventually headed Radio Kashmir Srinagar as Director at the most critical phase of Kashmir’s history. He also headed Doordarshan and later became the Deputy Director General of Doordarshan. Besides, he was the media adviser of Dr Farooq Abdullah for many years and later briefly to his son, Omar Abdullah.
The couple is survived by his son, a medical doctor, and two daughters.
