“Today marks the fourth consecutive Friday that Mirwaiz has been barred from offering prayers and delivering his sermon at the historic Jama Masjid,” the organisation said in a statement.

The statement further added, “This continued restriction on the revered leader from fulfilling his religious duties is deeply troubling and unacceptable.”

“It is disheartening that the government claims Mirwaiz is ‘free’ while simultaneously preventing him from attending the mosque on Fridays. This disregard for the truth reflects the lack of accountability to the public and their religious sentiments,” they said.

Highlighting the contrast between government rhetoric and actions, the statement noted, “The Prime Minister and Home Minister speak of a ‘Naya Kashmir,’ yet the voices of peace, spiritual guidance, and dialogue, such as Mirwaiz’s, are being silenced. This treatment of the Mirwaiz starkly contrasts with their statements.”

Anjuman Auqaf called for the immediate release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house detention and the restoration of his rights, along with the rights of the Kashmiri people to practise their religious traditions freely. The organisation urged all conscientious citizens and human rights bodies to speak out against this injustice.
