The 2024-25 NBA season is quickly approaching with training camp and preseason games on deck.

As is the case every year, there are many storylines to keep track of, such as the Boston Celtics trying to repeat as NBA champions from a loaded Eastern Conference.

However, besides the on-court happenings, there’s also been a drastic change in the NBA media landscape as ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski stepped down from his news-breaking role to become general manager of the men’s basketball program at St. Bonaventure.

Wojnarowski was an integral part of the NBA news cycle because of all the breaking news he dropped, and his departure leaves a massive void.

Several candidates have emerged as a potential “Woj” replacement, though no one seems to have taken the lead.

One more name popped up recently, as ESPN reportedly is considering elevating MLB insider Jeff Passan into Wojnarowski’s NBA role.

“Shams Charania and Jeff Passan are ‘leading candidates’ to replace Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN,” wrote Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.

Passan is often compared to Wojnarowski as his baseball equivalent and thus is a logical candidate to replace him.

Although Passan doesn’t break down basketball, he could do the job considering what he’s been able to do for MLB.

Charania should still be considered the favorite, however, as he established himself as Wojnarowski’s main competitor as the premier basketball news-breaker in the media industry.

It will be interesting to see who ESPN chooses, and if that person is named before the new season begins.
