NFL legend and 7-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has just begun his new career as a broadcaster, and he was always going to be heavily scrutinized as soon as he signed a 10-year deal worth a whopping $375 million with FOX Sports to be the program’s new top color commentator on NFL Sundays.

Just three weeks into his new gig, fans haven’t been shy about criticizing him for being boring and awkward, and Colin Cowherd recently spoke up to defend him against the haters.

In a recent episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast pointed out how it took him about nine years from high school to the NFL to become a great quarterback, but lamented fans for turning on him after just three games in the booth, saying “We are killing the bake” when it comes to giving young people the chance to get better at things over time.

It’s a fair take, as football is probably the most reactionary sport given how few games there are, and every player is always one bad game from every fan calling for them to be benched or traded.

Brady is also dealing with the burden of replacing Greg Olsen, who fans had grown to love in his role as the network’s top color guy, and Brady coming in and immediately taking the top billing and bumping Olsen down to No. 2 rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Cowherd is right in saying that Brady simply needs time, and it’s unreasonable to expect everyone to make this job look as easy as Olsen does.
