Analyst Reveals The Key To Lakers Contending This Season

As usual, the Los Angeles Lakers are the talk of the NBA once again, but this year, it seems to be for all the wrong reasons, as the storied franchise did virtually nothing in the offseason to improve and has hired a first-time head coach, JJ Redick, to be their new leader on the sideline.

With the team bringing back the same squad from last season, with a few additions here and there, many believe the Lakers will struggle in Redick’s first season as head coach, as a lot will have to go right in order for this team to contend in a stacked Western Conference.

Over the summer, the Lakers were rumored to have been looking to make a substantial trade, which would instantly get them back on the right track after flaming out of the first round of the NBA playoffs, but nothing came to fruition, as it seemed as though no other teams wanted what they were offering.

Although that was the case in the offseason, a lot can change between now and the NBA trade deadline in February, as injuries happen and notable players start to get mentioned in trade rumors with teams looking to shake things up.

Jason Timpf of Hoops Tonight believes the Lakers’ chances of contending this upcoming season will depend on whether they can make a trade before the deadline.

“Everything for the Lakers and their ultimate potential, though, will come down to whether or not they hit on a mid-season trade, in my opinion.”

With the Lakers’ roster not looking all that intimidating outside of an aging LeBron James and an often-injured Anthony Davis, Los Angeles could be looking at a tough road ahead during the 2024-25 campaign.

Only time will tell if the Lakers brass can pull off a trade to help right the ship, but all signs seem to be pointing to a disappointing season ahead for the Purple and Gold.
