Asia-Pacific stock markets update

SINGAPORE – Asia-Pacific markets opened mixed on Wednesday morning after a poor start to the trading month on Wall Street, with major stock indexes falling on rising tensions in the Middle East.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index futures were at 8,254.0 points, higher than the previous closing point of 8208.9 points. Japanese Nikkei 225 Index Futures showed the market opened lower, with the Chicago futures contract at 38,000 points and the Osaka futures contract at 38,010 points, compared with the previous closing price of 38,651.97 points.

Hong Kong Hang Seng Index The futures index was at 20,768 points, lower than the Hang Seng Index's last closing point of 21,133.68 points. Markets in mainland China were closed on Wednesday due to the Golden Week holiday and will remain closed for the rest of the week.
