Jerod Mayo Says He May Bench RB Over Fumbling Problems

The New England Patriots aren’t a good football team right now, but that’s far from a surprise.

If anything, it was somewhat shocking to see them beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener and take the Seattle Seahawks to overtime in Week 2.

They’re now sitting on a 1-3 record and have one of the worst offenses in the game.

Jacoby Brissett is what he is at this point, and the offensive line woes, plus an underwhelming receiving corps, are a recipe for disaster.

To make things even worse, RB Rhamondre Stevenson, who was supposed to be the lone bright spot on offense this season, has struggled to take care of the football.

Just two years removed from a 1,000-yard season, and despite his skills as a pass-catcher, Stevenson could lose his starting job.

HC Jerod Mayo claimed that he was considering benching him in favor of Antonio Gibson, as he’s praised that ball security is job security, so he can’t keep Stevenson out there if he keeps making those mistakes (Via Phil Perry).

Stevenson has fumbled four times in as many games this season, matching his previous career high for an entire season.

He’s clearly the best offensive player they have on the field, and he’s had to fight behind that shaky offensive line.

Then again, failure to secure the football has shot their ever-struggling offense on the foot multiple times, so something’s gotta give.

Perhaps this is what he needs to get back to his usual self and be at his best again.
